Why are they called goldfish when they are orange and not gold?

Common goldfish are orange yet some do have a gold like color and those are selected to be sold as fancy goldfish.

well in French goldfish translates to "red fish" so I don't know which one is worse.

Possibly due to the light reflecting off the the fish that makes one think the fish is gold, but it's not due to the amount of light put into the fishes orange texture, making it supposedly brighter. It's also due to the fishes color mutations. They can range from red, orange, or supposedly gold, which is actually yellow.
